Assaying Korea's Mineral Resources

Assaying Korea's Mineral Resources

The Republic of Korea has considerable mineral resources. But the full extent of the country's mineral wealth has yet to be measured. The UN Korean Reconstruction Agency (UNKRA) has, therefore, built a mineral assay laboratory with the most modern equipment at Taejon, to test ore samples to assess the commercial value of the mines now in existence and make a proper evaluation of the new finds. UNKRA provided $160,000 for this project, which was set up in agreement with the Government and the UN Command.
At the assay laboratory, Mr. Johan Poul Nielsen, representative for Korea of the (Danish) Smidth Construction Company, examining a core sample of limestone-bearing rock, while Mr. Rhee Chong Han, laboratory technician, places a core sample in the pulverizer.
