New Vocational Training Centre Opened in Seoul
As part of a programme under which the United Nations Korean Reconstruction Agency (UNKRA) is helping to construct and equip seven similar institutions in this country, a new Vocational Training Centre was opened here today in a ceremony at which Korean President Syngman Rhee was present. Attached to Kyunggi Technical High School, the new Centre was erected at a cost of some $290,000 and approximately 80,000,000 Hwan from counterpart funds. A main building or the School was rehabilitated, and four new workshops were built, including a three-story building. Modern machinery and instruments for mechanical and civil engineering as well as for architectural departments were brought from all parts of the world and UNKRA is also providing technical assistance in the installation and initial operation of this equipment.
Here, a student finishes and polishes rice pots in one of the shops of the new Centre. Students receive a good technical foundation that enables them to take jobs as apprentices in industrial plants. The work of turning out cast iron rice pots serves the double purpose of teaching them their trade and providing them at the same time with money (from sales) for raw materials.
