UNKRA Helps Wire Plants in Korea to Increase Production

One of the most acute shortages in Korea after the war was wire, especially needed for the restoration of vital lines of communication, without which no major reconstruction programme could begin. To assist wire-producing companies that had suffered heavily during the war, such as the Dai Han Electric Wire Company near Anyang, the United Nations Korean Reconstruction Agency allocated $150,000 for the importation of basic machines and equipment necessary in the manufacture of all types of wires and cables. The import of this machinery will also help Korea to become self-supporting in the manufacture of wire.
Here is an interior view of the rehabilitated Dai Han plant, which has been enabled to increase its daily production of copper wire from 2.5 tons to 5.5 tons by utilizing the UNKRA imported machinery.
