UNKRA Aids Korean Mining Community

UNKRA Aids Korean Mining Community

Considered uneconomic for development as late as 1957, a valley in the Korean province of Kangwon-do today is the locale of a thriving and growing coal industrial community. Working with assistance from the United Nations Korean Reconstruction Agency (UNKRA), the Kangwon Mine Company, a privately owned enterprise, has helped the community to develop both socially and industrially. The company has built modern homes with running water and electric lights for its workers - advantages unusual in the country areas of Korea.
This photo is of the double-decker screener for coal grading that was supplied to the company by UNKRA.
