UNKRA Aids Korean Mining Community

UNKRA Aids Korean Mining Community

Considered uneconomic for development as late as 1952, a valley in the Korean province of Kangwon-do today is the locale of a thriving and groining coal industrial community. Working with assistance from the United Nations Korean Reconstruction Agency (UNKRA), the Kangwon Mine Company, a privately owned enterprise, has helped the community to develop both socially and industrially. The company has built modern homes with running water and electric lights for its workers - advantages unusual in the country areas of Korea. This picture shows one of the 450 homes that have been built by the company. There are also bachelors; dormitories, a guest house, a combined clinic and dispensary and accommodation for two resident doctors. [Exact date unknown]
