Assembly Congratulates New Acting Secretary-General

Burmese ambassador to the UN, U Thant, was unanimously appointed to the post of UN Acting Secretary-General in the General Assembly this afternoon, following an unanimous recommendation for his appointment in the Security Council earlier in the day.
Making a statement of congratulation at the speaker's rostrum is Dr. Tesfaye Gebre-Egzy, Ethiopia's ambassador to the UN.
