Algeria and Argentina Open Assembly Debate on Raw Materials and Development

The General Assembly began this morning what is expected to be a three-week debate on raw materials and development - the subject being studied by its sixth special session, which opened yesterday. The President of Algeria and the Foreign Minister of Argentina were the opening speakers in a debate in which more than a hundred foreign ministers, economics ministers and other government representatives are expected to take part.
Houari Boumediene, President of the Revolutionary Council and of the Council of Ministers of Algeria, who had initiated the calling of the session, is seen addressing the Assembly. At the presidential rostrum, from left: Secretary-General Kurt Waldheim, Assembly President Leopoldo Benites (Ecuador), and Bradford Morse, Under-Secretary-General for Political and General Assembly Affairs.
