Belgian Battalion in Korea

1 February 1951

On 13 September 1950, the Belgian Government offered a battalion as contribution to the United Nations effort to fight aggression in Korea. Following a special training period of three months, in Belgium, the 600-man, all-volunteer battalion landed in Korea late in January. It includes 43 officers and men from Luxembourg. This picture shows a Belgian soldier cleaning his rifle.
