Thirty-Third Regular Session of the General Assembly
The General Assembly opened its thirty-third regular session on the afternoon of 19 September and Indalecio Lievano, Foreign Minister of Colombia, was elected as its President by acclamation. At the opening meeting, Solomon Islands was admitted to the United Nations as its 150th Member State. The Vice-Presidents of the current session are Bhutan, Burundi, Canada, China, El Salvador, Fiji, France, Kenya, Libya, Poland, Qatar, Senegal, Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, USSR, United Kingdom and United States. The Committee Chairmen are as follows: Ilkka O. Pastinea (Finland), First Committee; Rodolfo Piza Escalante (Costa Rica), Special Political Committee; Louis K. Mwangaguhunga (Uganda), Second Committee; Mrs. Leticia Shahani (Philippines), Third Committee; Leonid A. Dolguchits (Byelorussia), Fourth Committee; Clarus K. Sekyi (Ghana), Fifth Committee; and Luigi Ferrari-Bravo (Italy), Sixth Committee.
