United Nations Iraq-Kuwait Observation Mission (UNIKOM) Monitors Demilitarized Zone

On 9 April, the Security Council approved the Secretary-General's plan for establishing the United Nations Iraq-Kuwait Observation Mission (UNIKOM).
A UNIKOM soldier from the USSR greets a shepherd in the Southern Sector of the demilitarized zone, which extends 10 kilometres into Iraq and 5 kilometres into Kuwait from the borders as agreed to in1963. May 1991.
