United Nations Iraq-Kuwait Observation Mission Monitors Demilitarized Zone

On 9 April, the Security Council approved the Secretary-General's plan for establishing the United Nations Iraq-Kuwait Observation Mission (UNIKOM).
Aerial view of the UNIKOM Headquarters in the Central Sector of the demilitarized zone. The DMZ extends 10 kilometres into Iraq and five kilometres into Kuwait from the boundaries as agreed to in 1963. May 1991.
