United Nations Emergency Force (UNEF) Headquarters

1 September 1958

UNEF which was created when hostilities broke out in the Middle-East during the winter of 1956, has set up its Headquarters in the Gaza strip. This international force, under the command of Major General E.L.M. Burns of Canada, maintains its vigil along the demarcation line. UNEF has established modern equipment and barracks at its Headquarters as well as accommodations for its civilian personnel and is now able to provide its members with adequate living conditions for both work and recreation.
