UN Force in the Congo

25 July 1960

Following the Security Council resolution of 14 July 1960 authorizing UN military assistance to the Republic of the Congo, soldiers from a number of nations have been sent to help restore order and calm in the country. One of the countries to send contingents to help make up the new UN Force was Ethiopia.
Before the departure of Ethiopian troops for the Congo, Emperor Haile Selassie I is greeting United States air force pilots. The U.S. is one of the countries helping to airlift troops to the Congo.
