World AIDS Day Observance Focuses on Children Orphaned by AIDS

A symposium was held today in observance of World AIDS Day with the focus on the children who have been orphaned by AIDS.
Kensaku Hogen (right), Under-Secretary-General for Communications and Public Information, begins the programme by recalling the establishment of World AIDS Day and its expansion into a year-long World AIDS Campaign. Also seated from left to right: Peter Piot, Executive Director of the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UN-AIDS); Theo-Ben Gurirab (Namibia), President of the fifty-fourth session of the General Assembly; and Deputy Secretary-General Louise Frechette.
