Secretary-General Opens Meeting Aimed at Forming International Partnership Against HIV/AIDS in Africa

Secretary-General Kofi Annan (second from right) opens a private meeting being held at Headquarters to form an international partnership against HIV/AIDS in Africa. The two-day meeting includes representatives of governments from Africa and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), as well as UN agencies, civil society and the private sector.
Mr. Annan is flanked by Dr. Peter Piot (right), Executive Director of the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS), and by Deputy Secretary-General Louise Frechette.
