A Global Agenda: "Health for All by the Year 2000"
Enjoying good health means more than just being free of disease or other illness. The World Health Organization (WHO) defines health as a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being permitting a person to lead a productive life. With the attainment by all people of such a level of health as its aim, WHO has launched the "Health for All by the Year 2000" campaign – a global strategy for achieving this ambitious goal. Working with Governments and people at the community level, the programme focuses on the eight essential elements of primary health care: education, nutrition, water and sanitation, maternal and child health, immunization, prevention, control and appropriate treatment of endemic diseases, and the provision of essential drugs.
