A Continent Awakes

Although the overwhelming majority of the 210 million people in Africa make their living on the land, enormous changes are taking place. New nations are being formed, there is an increasing, world-wide demand for the continent's minerals and raw materials, power sources are being developed, communications opened up by rail, road and sea, and local industries are springing up. Through the new United Nations Economic Commission for Africa the governments are also working together to promote the economy of the continent and to raise living standards.
