Caribbean Fishery Development Project
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) with Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) as Executing Agency, is assisting in the development of fisheries in the area through exploratory fishing, training, market research and demonstration. Two 81-foot fishing/training vessels, built for FAO in Japan expressly for the project, the Calamar and the Alcyon, are being used in Barbados and Jamaica for exploratory fishing and for training fishermen.
