Tuma River Hydroelectric Project in Nicaragua
The electric power that will be provided through the Tuma River Hydroelectric project for agricultural, manufacturing and domestic purposes is expected to bring about a marked change in the economic and social life of the Nicaraguan people. The Empresa Nacional de Luz y Fuerza, an autonomous agency of the Government of Nicaragua responsible for the development of the project, expects that it will provide 50,000 kilowatts of electric power on its completion in January 1965. The cost of the project is estimated at about 20 million dollars, 12.5 million of which is being loaned by the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development to the Empresa Nacional de Luz y Fuerza.
