Public Transportation in the Congo

In Kivu, as in all the provinces of the Democratic Republic of Congo, the repair and maintenance of highways, bridges, ferries, etc., are essential conditions for the nation's economic recovery. Since 1961, the Government has requested technical assistance for its Ministry of Public Works, and, at present, 115 experts are serving as advisers, including 42 from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and others provided by the UN Economic Commission for Europe and Belgian and French bilateral aid programmes.
A bulldozer levels an access road to the Kamnyola Bridge over the Livumvi River, which will soon be reconstructed with financial aid from the International Development Association.
