UN General Assembly Holds Thirty-eighth Session

The United Nations General Assembly opened its thirty-eighth regular session on the afternoon of September 20th, electing Jorge E. Illueca of Panama as President. Reflecting growing world tensions, the 142-item agenda includes such matters as disarmament, economic relations between industrialized and developing countries, and armed conflicts in the Middle East and Central America. At least 35 Heads of State are scheduled to address the Assembly during the present session, and Foreign Ministers of 30 countries are expected to participate in working sessions.
