Flag Raising Ceremony of Nine New Members of the UN

As its resumed forty-six session, the General Assembly admitted by acclamation nine States to membership of the United Nations, following the recommendations of the Security Council. Of the nine states, eight are former Republics of the Soviet Union - Moldova, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Armenia. The other State admitted was San Marino, bringing the total membership of the United Nations to 175 States.
