The United Nations' Care for the Palestine Refugees
By the end of 1956 UNRWA operated 347 elementary and secondary schools, under UNESCO supervision. There were 2,954 teachers and 102,853 pupils (95,847 elementary, 7,006 secondary); in addition 420 students were in vocational training and 350 university scholarships had been granted to refugees for the1957-58 scholastic year. UNRWA spent over $2,110,000 for education during the fiscal year ending in 1956, plus $442,000 for vocational training.
