Twelfth Session of the General Assembly Opens in New York

17 September 1957

The twelfth regular session of the General Assembly was convened today at United Nations Headquarters. During the opening meeting today, Sir Leslie Munro, of New Zealand, was elected President of the twelfth session of the Assembly. At the beginning of the meeting, Mr. Charles Malik, of Lebanon, withdrew his candidature in the interest of unity.
