Dr. Charles Malik Elected President of 13th General Assembly Session

By majority vote on the first ballot, the United Nations General Assembly today elected Dr. Charles Malik, Lebanon's Minister for Foreign Affairs, as President of its thirteenth session.
Sir Leslie Munro (New Zealand), as President of the last regular session of the Assembly, called the meeting to order today. He is handing over the gavel to the new President, Dr. Malik.
