UNRWA, whose purpose is to provide relief for Palestine Refugees and to assist them to become self-supporting began operations in May 1950. To protect vulnerable groups - undernourished children, pregnant or nursing mothers and T.B. out-patients - supplementary feeding centers in each camp provide a hot meal for over 42,000 children daily and extra rations are distributed to 31,000 refugees monthly.
