Laurence Michelmore Appointed Commissioner-General of UNRWA

Portrait of Mr. Laurence Michelmore, who was appointed today by Secretary-General U Thant, as Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA). Mr. Michelmore will assume his new duties on 1 January 1964. He succeeds Dr. John H. Davis who had headed UNRWA since 1959.
