Field Coverage
Yugoslav Soldiers of UNEF at Desert Outposts
Since the winter of 1956, UNEF (UN Emergency Force) soldiers from eight countries have guarded the Egypt-Israel Armistice Demarcation Line and the long international frontier of the Sinai Peninsula. Yugoslav and Canadian contingents cover this international frontier to the south, manning fixed desert outposts or using scout care, jeeps, and light planes to patrol the uninhabited area.
Here, at the El Sabha base, Yugoslav Privates (left to right) Vojnovic Djordje; Dandek Franc; and Gajevic Arsenije observe each sector of the surrounding area from an armoured scout car.
