Yugoslav Soldiers of UNEF at Desert Outposts

A Lieutenant of the Brazilian contingent of the United Nations Emergency Force (UNEF), photographed as he reconnoitered a sand dune near the Armistice Demarcation Line during a recent sand storm in the area. Winds attained a velocity of more than 50 miles per hour during the storm.

Since the winter of 1956, UNEF (UN Emergency Force) soldiers from eight countries have guarded the Egypt-Israel Armistice Demarcation Line and the long international frontier of the Sinai Peninsula.
