Salvage Work in the Suez Canal

Salvage Work in the Suez Canal

Salvage work in the Suez Canal is proceeding at a normal rate. A temporary channel for the transit of ships up to 10,000 tons should be opened early in March, and the Canal should be cleared of all its obstructions in May, as anticipated by General Wheeler (US), who organized and supervises the clearance operation for the UN.
One of the UN salvage craft - the Dutch floating crane ""Condor"" - lifting and removing one pontoon of the sunken railway ferry at El Kantara, about 28 miles south of Port Said.
