UN Emergency Force in Port Said

22 December 1956

Anglo-French forces completed the total evacuation of Port Said on 22 December and the city was left under the control of the UN Emergency Force (UNEF), which is jointly protecting it in cooperation with the Egyptian police. Evacuation completed 6.45 local time, when last ship sailed out of the harbor. Departure of Anglo-French forces ended a 48-day occupation which started 5 November.
