Salvage Work in the Suez Canal

Salvage operations in the Suez Canal are proceeding according to schedule. A channel for the navigation of ships up to 10.000 tons should be cleared by early March and the Canal should be free of all obstructions by May, as anticipated by Gen. Raymond Wheeler (U.S.), who organized and is supervising the clearance operation for the UN.
Anchored at 53 km. is the Italian tanker Pianita, which was to have been the first vessel to sail from Port Said to Suez. 1957.
