Twenty-two Importers Meet at UN HQ at the Invitation of UNIDO
Twenty-two importers, each a leader in his field, met at U.N. Headquarters today at the invitation of the U.N. Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) to evaluate UNIDS's product adaptation and development programme in the United States. They suggested a number of constructive ways in which UNIDO might more effectively carry out its mandate to help developing countries adapt their products to United States market requirements. This is the first meeting of its kind with specialists in the business community. Similar meetings are planned for Canada and Europe. Following discussion, the importers proposed the formation of five advisory industry groups which UNIDO can contact on questions from developing countries relating to their specialty. The merchandise areas are: ceramics, woodenware, hardware, housewares, giftware and tableware; Textile and apparel products; home furnishings, two sub-divisions: furniture, and decorative fabrics and floor coverings; fashion accessories; food products.
