Field Coverage
Displaced Persons in Lebanon
An estimated 300,000 people have been displaced by the Israeli invasion of Southern Lebanon, some 200,000 to 230,000 Lebanese and 85,000 to 100,000 Palestinians; about 30,000 are children. These people had fled from the conflict area in the south to north of the Litani River, and are located mainly in the cities of Beirut and Saida. In response to an appeal made by the Lebanese Government, assistance is being provided by the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), and the UN Children's Fund (UNICEF).
