This picture was taken when the Council - at its 1st session- elected Sir Ramaswami Mudaliar, of India, as its President for the first period of office; it shows Mr. Gladwyn Jebb (right), Executive Secretary of the UN congratulating Sir Ramaswami upon his election. Sir Ramaswami was unable to be present at the 3rd session, but the Council,at its 4th session, re-elected him President for the second period of office.
