Press Briefing on 'The World Economy in 1999'

Nitin Desai, Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs, introduces his Department's report, ""The World Economy in 1999"", at a Headquarters press briefing. The brunt of the global economic slowdown had been borne by the developing and transitional economies, he said, describing the period 1998-1999 as a lost biennium for development in Asia and a period of lost momentum in Asia and Latin America.
