Security Council Convenes Emergency Session of UN Assembly

17 September 1960

The Security Council early this morning decided to call the UN General Assembly into emergency special session tonight on the situation in the Congo. This action followed the Council's failure to adopt any resolution of its own on UN operations in the Congo.
UN Secretary General Dag Hammarskjöld addresses the Council. At right is M. Egidio Ortona (Italy), Council President for the current month.
