Dr. Ralph Bunche Visits UNEF
The Danish-Norwegian Battalion (Danor) was one of the units visited by Dr. Bunche.
Dr. Bunche (2nd from left) during a tour of observation posts manned by members of the Battalion along the Armistice Demarcation Line, in the desert north of Gaza and close to the Mediterranean Sea. Accompanying the visitors are (l. to r.): UNEF Commander, Lt. Gen. E.L.M. Burns; Lt. Col. T. Randers, Commanding Officer of the Danor Bn; Major E. Fournais, Second in Command of the Danor Bn; and Capt. T. Johnson (Norway), Aide de Camp to Gen. Burns. The marker seen in the photograph was erected on the shore to help offshore shipping identify the Armistice Demarcation Line. Gaza, April (between 23-29), 1959.
