First Session of the UN Economic Commission for Africa
UN Secretary-General Dag Hammarskjöld arrived at Addis Ababa airport today for the opening of the first session of the new UN Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) on 29 December. The Commission, the fourth regional commission to be set up by the United Nations, will provide a focal point where the economic needs of the African people can be expressed and where action to meet them can be initiated and stimulated.
Mr. Hammarskjöld is seen here as he inspected the Guard of Honour at the airport upon his arrival. He made a brief address before leaving the airport for the Jubilee Palace, where he was State Guest of Emperor Haile Sellassie.
