Secretary-General U Thant Visits Burma

Secretary-General U Thant accompanied by his 83-year old mother Daw Nan Thaung (left) and his wife, Daw Thein Tin, are seen during a religeous ceremony held at the Sasana Yeiktha Monastery, where 71 Buddhist monks, including former Premier U Nu, were offered alms. The Buddhist rite of prayers and offering of alms, which was attended by 1,000 guests, was held in the Glass Prayer Hall of the Sasaha Yeiktha Monastery, with the Head Monk of the Monastery, Mahasi Sayadaw, presiding.
