Flags of 16 New Member States Raised at UN Headquarters

In a brief ceremony today flags of the 16 new Member States were added to the 82 flying outside the UN headquarters in New York. In the presence of several hundred delegates, Secretariat officials and guests, Secretary-General Dag Hammarskjöld and General Assembly President Frederick H. Boland (Ireland) congratulated each of the representatives of the States and each flag was raised on its staff in turn. A general view of the flag-raising ceremony.
