Uruguay's Rural Health Program

Uruguay's Rural Health Program

The Government of Uruguay has launched a rural health project, started in August 1955 with a jointly sponsored survey of existing conditions, and recommendations for local staff-training by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF). Involving five provinces in Uruguay, a broad public health training programme was laid out, sanitation and health education. Actual field work started in 1956, in the northern province of Rivera, at a town of the same name on the Brazilian border.
