The World Conference marking the end of the United Nations Decade for Women which began in Nairobi on 15 July and concluded on 27 July with adoption by consensus of a final document containing strategies, for the rest of the century that are designed to improve the status of women and integrate them into all aspects of development. Representatives of more than 140 Nations attended the World Conference to Review and Appraise the Achievements of the United Nations Decade for Women. This is the third time the United Nations has convened an international conference on the status of women. The Decade for Women (1976-1985) was proclaimed by the General Assembly on the recommendation of the World Conference of the International Women's Year, held in Mexico City in 1975. The World Conference of the decade was held mid-way through the Decade (1980) in Copenhagen. The 1985 Conference was to assess the implementation of the action plans adopted by its predecessors.
