A Global Priority: Harmonising the Needs of Nature and Humanity

With environmental deterioration threatening our way of life, we are at last taking action to protect the delicate balance between our needs and the well-being of the planet. Socio-economic policies that promote development while also safeguarding our air, water and soil, and plant and animal life have become a global priority. The General Assembly, in response to this, voted to convene an international Conference on Environment and Development in Brazil in June 1992.
