Visit to Units of the UN Emergency Force in Egypt
This picture is part of a series taken early December 1956, during visits by correspondents, to units fo the UN Emergengy Force. On December 10, the strength of the Force in Egypt had passed the 3,500 mark. The Force, which is made up of contingents from Canada, Colombia, Denmark, Finland, India, Norway, Sweden and Yugoslavia, had units in the Abu Suweir transit camp near Ismailia, the El Ballah asembly centre south of Qantara, the El Cap buffer zone to the north , the Sinai peninsula and the Port Said - Port Fuad area.
This picture shows the arrival at Abu Suweir of Swedish contingent of 164 officers and man who had been flown from Capodichino Airport, in Italy, in Canadian and Italian transport planes. The Canadian planes, which are C-119 transports of the RCAF's 435 Squadron display the UN emblem.
