General Burns Leaves Gaza, Handing Over UNEF Command to General Gyani

Lieutenant General E.L.M Burns (Canada) today handed over the command of the United Nations Emergency Force to his successor, Major General P.S. Gyani, of the Indian Army. He then left by plane from Gaza airfield for Beirut, after inspecting a guard of honour made up of men from the various national contingent in UNEF.
General Burns is seen here before boarding his plane, giving a last salute to the men he has commanded since 1956 when UNEF was set up.
