Portrait of Dag Hammarskjöld by Bo Beskow
A portrait of the late Secretary-General Dag Hammarskjöld, by the Swedish painter Bo Beskow, has been acquired by the United Nations through the generosity of the Ford Foundation and of Bonniers, the Swedish publishing house. It was unveiled today by Secretary-General U Thant at the north end of the Secretariat Lobby.
The portrait measures 116 cm. x 130 cm. and represents many years' work by the painter, who was a close friend of the late Secretary-General. Mr. Beskow also painted the fresco in the Meditation Room and the mural in the Penthouse of the Dag Hammarskjöld Library.
