Security Council Renews Mandate of UNDOF for Another Six Months

The Security Council voted this afternoon to renew the mandate of the UN Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) for another six months. The mandate of UNDOF, which is stationed in the Syria-Israel sector, was to expire tomorrow, 30 November. The Council acted by adopting a draft resolution sponsored jointly by Austria, Indonesia, Kenya, Mauritania, Peru and the United Republic of Cameroon, Which was circulated just before the start of the meeting. The vote was 13 in farour to none against, with no abstentions. China and Iraq did not participate in the vote. Secretary-General Kurt Waldheim addressed the Coucil at the start of the meeting.
