Flags of the 16 New U.N. Member Nations Fly at Headquarters

A general view of the ceremony, which was presided over by the Secretary-General Dag Hammarskjöld; representatives from the nation concerned and U.N. guards stand at the foot of leach flag pole. The flags had been raised one at a time, in the same order as the 16 membership applications were voted upon in the General Assembly.
