United Nations Literacy Decade (2003-2012) Launched at UN Headquarters

The United Nations today launched the ""United Nations Literacy Decade: Education for all (2003-2012)""at headquarters in New York, with its theme ""Literacy as Freedom"". The launch is spearheaded by UNESCO, as the lead agency for the Decade. A photo exhibition on literacy was also presented in the UN Public Lobby.
Among those speaking today are: Louise Fréchette (second from left), Deputy SG of the UN: Koichiro Matsuura (centre: third from right), Director-general of UNESCO, and President Natsagiyn Bagabandi (second from right) of Mongolia.
